This is honestly the clearest breakdown I’ve seen in a while. Someone called Amex support and got a full list of what does and doesn’t count for the Platinum $200 airline fee credit.
Good to know the usual stuff still works: checked bags, seat selection fees, lounge day passes, onboard food and drinks, even pet fees and overweight bags. Basically most nuisance airline fees are fair game.
Also good reminder of what definitely does not work: tickets, upgrades, award fees, gift cards, mileage purchases, Travel Bank, WiFi, or anything charged by a partner airline instead of your selected one. And yes, upgrades still don’t count, even those AA stickers people keep hoping for.
If you’ve ever wondered why a charge didn’t trigger the credit, it’s probably on that ineligible list.
