I just followed the updates on AA1292 out of LAX a Boeing 737-800 headed for Nashville that had to declare an emergency right after departure. The plane stopped climbing at 16,000 feet due to suspected flap issues and started circling before returning safely to Los Angeles. It eventually landed on runway 25R about an hour and 20 minutes after takeoff, with emergency crews waiting on the ground.
I can only imagine how tense that must have been for passengers, especially since flap problems can seriously affect takeoff and landing performance.
Thankfully, everything ended safely. Has anyone here ever been on a flight that had to return or divert after declaring an emergency? How did the airline handle it?
