The situation is that I arrive in a city near the downtown area around 4pm, close to where we will pick up a car the next morning at 9am. My friend arrives much later, around 1am, at an airport that is about an hour away from downtown.
He wants me to come to the airport to meet him and then stay at a hotel near the airport overnight before going back to downtown in the morning. I suggested instead that he take an Uber to downtown where I already am so we can stay there together, and then walk to pick up the car the next morning.
He says it is rude for me not to meet him at the airport after his flight and also says it is not safe for him to travel alone that late at night while tired. I then suggested he could stay at a hotel near the airport instead, but he said that is unfair because he would pay more and still considers it rude that I will not meet him at the airport.
I am asking if I am wrong for suggesting these alternatives instead of meeting him at the airport.
