Staying at the Benson in Portland this week. Checked in around 11pm, grabbed a key card, and the front desk mentioned there had been a plumbing issue earlier but said no one had entered my room. A little odd, but fine.
Got upstairs and noticed a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Walked in anyway and immediately realized the room was very much occupied. Open suitcases, stuff on the bed, couple inside. I backed out fast and went straight back down.
Front desk was extremely apologetic and moved me to a new room right away. No drama, just a clear system screw-up. What was strange is the app showed access to both rooms for a while before it finally cleared overnight.
Nothing bad happened, but it was a good reminder. Always deadbolt your door, no matter how nice the hotel is.
Still think the Benson is a solid property and I’d stay there again. Just… deadbolt.
