I had a new experience today while flying SAN → BOS with a layover in PHX.
I decided to take an earlier flight to PHX and ended up with a long 6-hour layover there. While waiting, I randomly checked my checked bag status. Instead of showing “offloaded in PHX,” the app showed “in baggage claim” and then “in baggage office.”
When I checked my paper baggage tag, I noticed something worrying—it only listed PHX as the destination, not BOS. I went to the baggage office, and at first they said this was normal due to the long layover. But when I pointed out the tag only said PHX, they investigated and confirmed my bag had only been tagged to PHX, not my final destination.
Luckily, I caught it in time and got it corrected.
