Walking from Bellagio to Fashion Show Mall with my family one night and had a close call. I was wearing one of those small sling bags, but had it on my back. Phone in hand, a little distracted, family walking ahead of me.
Out of nowhere I felt movement on my bag. Same exact feeling as when my dad once tried to pickpocket me as a lesson. I turn around and see two guys. One immediately turns and walks off. The other pauses, turns his head, and pretends to be on a phone call.
I check my bag and sure enough the main compartment was open. Luckily there was nothing valuable in there. Just a McDonald’s bag and a water bottle. Would’ve been hilarious if they stole literal trash.
Wallet was safe since I keep it tucked way out of reach. I was more shocked than anything. Your brain kind of freezes when you realize someone actually tried that on you.
Lesson learned though. Even when it’s not super crowded, it happens fast. Bags go in front now, especially on the Strip. Way better than dealing with replacing cards and IDs on vacation.
