I am currently on a two-week MVP Silver trial status with Alaska Airlines.
Two days ago, I was able to move to a Premium seat at no extra charge. Then yesterday, about 8 hours before departure, I received an email confirming an upgrade to First Class for my flight from Seattle to Honolulu.
Later, I went to the lounge and presented my ticket. However, the staff at the lounge informed me that access would cost 35 dollars because my ticket was considered an upgraded fare.
I am trying to understand how lounge access rules work in this situation and why an upgrade to First Class does not automatically include lounge entry.
