Alaska Airlines is making a bold move: starting May 2026, they’ll launch the longest 737 MAX flight ever by a US airline, flying from Seattle to Keflavik, Iceland. It’s over 3,100 nautical miles, and it’ll be a daily seasonal route using the MAX 8 with no seat-back entertainment streaming only. This is also Alaska’s first-ever narrowbody transatlantic service. Wild, right?
I'm intrigued but a bit skeptical. That’s a long time to be in a narrowbody without IFE or lie-flat seats. The route definitely fills a niche though, especially for West Coasters wanting a direct hop to Iceland. I’d love to hear thoughts, would you choose this over connecting through JFK or BOS on a widebody?
