Alaska Airlines has officially begun construction on a new maintenance complex at Portland International Airport (PDX), marking a significant investment in its operational infrastructure. The facility will be built next to the airline’s existing maintenance and operations center and will include roughly 125,000 square feet dedicated to aircraft maintenance, along with an additional 60,000 square feet for offices, workshops, and support functions.
Once completed, the hangar will be capable of accommodating up to three narrowbody aircraft or two widebody aircraft simultaneously. The added capacity is expected to improve maintenance efficiency, reduce aircraft downtime, and ease workload pressures currently handled by facilities in Seattle and other hubs.
According to Alaska Airlines, the project represents a $135 million investment and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2028. The airline also noted that by fall 2026, it expects to offer 50% more seats in Portland compared to two years earlier, highlighting the city's growing importance within its network.
The original poster welcomed the investment in Portland but humorously pointed out that the AI-generated aircraft featured in the airline's promotional materials did not closely resemble Alaska's actual fleet.
