Alaska Airlines 737 MAX Declares Emergency After Mid-Air Electrical Smell

Another emergency return for Alaska Airlines this time, a 737 MAX 9 (AS1156) had to circle back to Seattle just minutes after takeoff due to an electrical smell in the rear cabin. The aircraft was climbing out on its way to San Diego when the crew declared an emergency. Thankfully, it landed safely, and a replacement jet got passengers to their destination with a 2.5-hour delay.

This isn’t Alaska’s first brush with in-flight odor issues. Between electrical smells and air quality concerns, I’m starting to wonder how common these events are especially with the 737 MAXs.

Anyone else uneasy about how often this seems to happen? Or is it just normal safety precautions doing their job?
