I just received an email suggesting that points earning and redemption are now available on Air India Express flights as well.
The key condition mentioned is that the Air India membership number must be added to the booking before the flight is taken. Only then will the flight be eligible for earning or redeeming points.
This implies that retroactive claims are not allowed if the membership number was not attached to the reservation prior to travel.
