Air France & KLM Introduce Basic Fare Without Large Carry-On (and Without XP) on Select Routes

Air France and KLM will launch a new "Basic" fare on select short- and medium-haul European routes starting September 9, 2025, offering a stripped-down option that includes only one small personal item (40×30×15 cm), with no overhead carry-on, no checked baggage, and no XP status point accrual—though Flying Blue miles are still earned. This fare is aimed at price-sensitive travelers and will be available on routes from Paris and Amsterdam to cities like Athens, Munich, Vienna, and Dublin. While elite Flying Blue and SkyTeam members retain some baggage privileges, most passengers will need to pay extra for cabin bags, seat selection, and changes. The move mirrors a broader industry shift toward ultra-low-cost fare structures in European air travel.
