Air Canada long haul made me laugh at “best airline in North America”

Currently 13.5 hours into a 15 hour YYZ to DEL flight on Air Canada. Add another hour on the ground for deicing, just for fun.

Lavatories are overflowing with trash and smell like half the plane forgot how toilets work.

Meal service in “premium economy” was one drink round with the meal, then immediately a coffee and tea cart right behind it. Trays still full, nowhere to put anything. After trays were collected? Basically no sign of the crew for about 9 hours. No trash pickup, no drinks, no snacks. At the back there was one sad cart with slimy wraps and a single snack option.

Looking at the menus, the food across cabins seemed basically identical. Same stuff, just different levels of fancy wording.

Posting this mostly as a reality check for anyone who still thinks Skytrax ratings mean much. If AC is cheaper than United on a similar route, I guess it’s a coin flip at best.

Edit: Sounds like the move is ANA from the West Coast if you want Star Alliance. Otherwise, from the East Coast or if alliance doesn’t matter, just fly a Gulf carrier and save yourself the disappointment.
