Flying YYZ–YVR–PEK on one ticket with Air Canada, and my first flight got delayed over 3 hours because they had to “source a standby aircraft.” The delay pushed my arrival in Vancouver to 1:20 AM, and my Beijing flight isn’t until 1:30 PM, so I’m stuck overnight.
They gave me a $15 meal voucher but no hotel, saying they weren’t sure if the delay was “controllable.” That part confused me.
Does “sourcing a standby aircraft” fall under the airline’s control for APPR purposes? If I’m forced to overnight, should they be covering hotel and transport? And if they refuse, is it fine to book one myself and claim reimbursement later?
