Accidentally shortened my Southwest flight credit expiration

Tried that trick of booking and canceling a flight to combine travel credits, but now the expiration date on the new credit is earlier than my planned trip. The system won’t let me use it anymore.

Has anyone had luck getting Southwest to extend a credit’s expiration date? Wondering if it’s even worth calling or if they stick firm on the rules.
