I managed to grab amazing award flights for my 12/24 trip from BNA to BZE on AA. 7k miles. Booked exactly 331 days out like everyone recommends.
So I did the same thing for the return. Set an alarm, woke up early to book 1/1 and… everything is terrible. Like 100k miles terrible. The worst award pricing I’ve ever seen for this route.
What’s confusing is that we travel on New Year’s Day every year specifically because it’s usually cheaper. Right now I’m even considering moving the return to 12/31 because the pricing drops a lot.
Is this just AA not releasing saver space yet on the return? Or is New Year’s Day treated differently for award inventory? Any tricks besides obsessively checking or setting alerts?
