Had a strange situation on a DFW to SEA flight. There were still several first class seats empty before departure, but no upgrades were processed.
Checked the app while seated and saw about 7 first class seats still open, even though economy was completely full because of all the storms and delays.
Put a bag in the first class overhead bin, and a flight attendant came over saying there were still empty seats in first and asked to move the bag. Ended up moving it, but nobody else ever got seated there.
No upgrades happened at all, and those seats stayed empty the whole flight.
