Has anyone seen this happen before?
I was surprised that I had not received any upgrade confirmation emails, even though the system was offering upgrades for around $50 on an Embraer 175. Now, within 12 hours of departure, the upgrade list has populated and shows 6 open seats in first class.
What I do not understand is why upgrades were not clearing earlier, especially when seats appear to still be available. Shouldn't the system start clearing upgrades gradually instead of leaving multiple seats open this close to departure?
Has anyone experienced a similar situation or knows how American’s upgrade logic works in cases like this?
