Looks like Marriott updated the Japanese T&Cs to say Platinum and above only get guaranteed late checkout until 2pm now. Anything up to 4pm is “based on availability.”
Checked with both the Japan and US Ambassador desks and they confirmed it’s a global change, the English terms just haven’t been updated yet.
So yeah… the old “4pm guaranteed” perk seems to be gone.
