My boyfriend and I recently completed a 4-day, 3-night trip to Bangkok, and here is a detailed breakdown of our experience.
On arrival, Suvarnabhumi Airport was very crowded and immigration took over 30 minutes. We stayed at Arte Hotel in Asok, which we found to be dated and not up to our hygiene expectations, although the location near Terminal 21 was convenient.
We explored several places including Erawan Shrine, Grand Palace, IconSiam, Jim Thompson House, Siam Discovery skywalk, and Jodd Fairs night market. Transportation was mainly via BTS and MRT due to traffic, which can be very heavy in Bangkok.
We also experienced a tuk-tuk fare disagreement near the Grand Palace and encountered a common tourist scam attempt. Food experiences were mixed, with some highlights like Ponn at T21 and Nara at Siam Paragon, while others were average. Massage services were widely available, but popular places often require advance booking.
Overall, we found Bangkok to be a lively and enjoyable city with friendly people, good food options, and plenty of activities. However, costs were not as low as often portrayed, especially in tourist areas, and planning ahead is important for transport, attractions, and services.
