I recently flew with Singapore Airlines on SQ24 from Singapore to New York (JFK), and about 4 hours into the flight, the in-flight entertainment system stopped working and could not be fixed for the remaining 13–14 hours of the journey.
As compensation, the airline initially offered a $200 KrisShop (inflight shopping) voucher. After I raised concerns about how inadequate this felt given the length of the disruption (around 75% of the flight), they offered an alternative of 20,000 KrisFlyer miles instead.
At this point, it seems unlikely they will increase the compensation further, so I’m trying to decide which option provides better value.
Things I’m considering:
Practical value and usability of KrisShop vouchers
Real-world redemption value of 20k KrisFlyer miles
Flexibility and expiry considerations
For those familiar with KrisFlyer miles or similar compensation situations, which option would you choose and why?
