We are planning a 2-week trip to Italy in early September and would like feedback on our transportation plan between cities.
We will arrive at Florence airport at 11pm and plan to take the T2 tram to the train station, then a taxi to our hotel near Palazzo Vecchio. We are wondering if taxis can directly access hotels in the city center since some areas may have restricted vehicle access.
From Florence to Milan, we plan to take Italo high-speed train from Firenze SMN to Milano Centrale.
In Milan, we will use the ATM 3-day public transport pass.
For Milan to Bellagio, we are considering several routes via Varenna, Como San Giovanni, Lecco, or bus connections. We are also trying to choose a route that allows a later start (around 8am) and avoids peak ferry crowds. We are unsure which ferries are fastest, least crowded, and whether fast ferries allow large luggage or require advance booking.
Finally, for Bellagio back to Milan, we need to reach Milano Centrale by 1pm to catch a train to Zurich. We are asking whether the return journey is less crowded in the morning and if reverse-direction travel is easier compared to inbound day-trip traffic.
We are looking for advice on whether our itinerary and transport choices are practical or should be adjusted.
