I’m Atmos Silver (was MVP the last few years) and always buy tickets with my Alaska card. In prior years I could check 2 bags free. One from status and one from the card.
Now at check-in I only get 1 free bag. Second bag is $45. I called customer care and they couldn’t really explain it, just that both benefits now apply to the “first bag” only.
Digging into the Atmos card terms, I do see the line that says the first checked bag free benefit can’t be combined with other free baggage allowances. I’m pretty sure that’s the change, but it definitely wasn’t obvious.
This really takes a lot of value out of Atmos Silver for me. Upgrades are basically nonexistent at this level, so now it’s mostly just free exit row seating. Not nothing, but pretty thin.
Also feels counterproductive. If I’m paying for the second bag anyway, I’m way more likely to try to carry it on and add to the overhead bin chaos.
Anyone else notice this or have old card terms to confirm?
