Quick tip for anyone flying out of Colombia on a one way ticket.
Airlines usually include a 136,000 COP tax on the ticket called the Impuesto de Timbre Nacional, which normally applies to Colombian residents or travelers who stayed in the country longer than 60 days.
But if the stay was less than 60 days, it’s actually possible to get that tax refunded at the airport check-in desk. After giving some basic info and signing a form, the airline can return the 136k COP in cash and stamp the passport entry stamp to show the refund was processed.
Apparently this worked when flying with Avianca, though it’s not widely mentioned when booking tickets.
