13+ hour layover at Doha in economy… which lounge is actually worth it?

Short answer: you can’t buy access to the Silver Lounge unless you have status. It’s tied to oneworld Sapphire and above, so no amount of cash will get you in without status.

For pay-in options, Al Maha is basically your only real choice airside. And yeah, the comments you’ve read are mostly right. It’s fine, but not amazing. Think quiet place to sit, decent food, showers if you need one. For a few hours it’s okay. For 13+ hours, it can start to feel pretty meh.

A few things to consider for a layover that long:

Al Maha can be bought in blocks, so you don’t have to stay there the whole time. Some people do lounge + wandering + another lounge stint later.

Hamad is one of the better airports to kill time in. Plenty of seating, walking space, cafés, and it’s clean and safe overnight.

Sleeping: if you want real rest, the Oryx Airport Hotel (inside security) is expensive but honestly the best option for a layover this long. Even a half-day room can be a game changer.

If you’re thinking of upgrading lounge access vs hotel, the hotel usually wins for value when the layover is overnight or 12+ hours.

If it were me: I’d skip Silver Lounge dreams, either do a short Al Maha stay + airport wandering, or bite the bullet and book the Oryx if sleep matters.
