What’s the scariest “I didn’t know that mattered” mistake as a digital nomad?

Been moving between countries for a while and one thing that keeps giving me anxiety is how easy it is to accidentally screw something up without realizing it.

Stuff like accidentally triggering tax residency, losing social security or national insurance contributions, bank accounts getting frozen because your address doesn’t make sense anymore, losing access to healthcare back home, or realizing way too late that you should’ve thought about cross border estate planning.

Feels like a lot of nomads only learn this stuff after something breaks, or they just haven’t been doing it long enough for it to come back and bite them yet.

What’s the most expensive or scary “I didn’t know that mattered” mistake you’ve seen or experienced yourself? Hoping to learn from others before I make one of these myself.

For context, I’m not in a wealth bracket where hiring full time advisors feels realistic.
