I saw a post from someone flying Southwest after the recent policy changes and honestly the whole thing sounded like a mess.
They said boarding took about 30 minutes longer than usual and even people sitting near the front had their bags end up way in the back. On top of that, passengers in the last boarding group were apparently forced to gate check bags.
The worst part though was a gate agent arguing with a woman because she bought popcorn at the airport and they called it a third carry on. She tried to explain she was literally going to eat it on the plane, but the agent kept pushing and threatening to call a manager. Apparently the passenger ended up in tears worrying about missing her connection.
I get that agents have to enforce rules, but moments like that are rough to watch. Especially when people are already stressed about delays and connections.
