“UV rays” as a reason to close the windows is a new one

That announcement would’ve made me roll my eyes too.

If the real reason is to keep the cabin dark so people can sleep, just say that. Most passengers get it on a long haul, especially on a daytime departure headed into night. Blaming “ultra violet rays” feels like someone grabbed a science sounding excuse out of thin air.

Plenty of people like cracking the shade for a bit to ease into the time change or just not feel trapped in a dark tube for 12 hours straight. It’s not unreasonable.

Airlines really do themselves no favors when they make stuff up instead of being straight with passengers. Just say it helps cabin service and rest, and you’d probably get way more cooperation.
