I couldn’t agree more with this. “Go with the flow” is usually coming from people who already know how to navigate airports, transit, neighborhoods, and sketchy situations without thinking about it. First time solo travelers don’t have that muscle memory yet.
Having your accommodation booked, knowing how to get there, and understanding which areas feel safe isn’t being rigid. It’s what lets you relax instead of spending every day problem solving. Spontaneity is great once the basics are handled.
I’ve seen the same thing happen. Women come back exhausted, not because the trip was bad, but because everything felt like a constant decision under pressure. Confidence comes from reducing risk, not pretending it doesn’t exist.
