Had a really uncomfortable experience and not sure how to handle it.
Was on a short taxi ride to HarbourFront. Driver asked where I wanted to be dropped off, then immediately unbuckled his pants, pulled out a plastic bag, and just… started peeing while continuing to drive. After about 30 seconds you could hear it and smell it. He said he couldn’t hold it anymore.
For context, there was a petrol station right in front of us when this happened. He never asked to stop or warned me. I told him he could’ve just said he needed the toilet, but he kept insisting “bobian” (no choice). Conversation was in Hokkien.
At the end of the ride I paid via PayWave because I didn’t want to hand him cash. No apology at all. Not even a paiseh.
I’m honestly torn. On one hand, he’s an old man and I don’t want someone to lose their livelihood. On the other hand, this was unsafe, unhygienic, and pretty shocking. I was visibly shaken by it, and it’s easy for people to say “just let it go” when they weren’t there.
I’m leaning toward writing to the taxi company and asking for leniency, maybe just a warning. But I also keep thinking about the next passenger. This could’ve gone badly in so many ways.
What would you do?
