Saw someone in a stressful situation right now while trying to get home from Sri Lanka.
They were supposed to fly Colombo to Doha with Qatar Airways and then Doha to Helsinki with Finnair. Both flights got cancelled, and Qatar offered the usual options: rebook within 14 days or take a refund.
The problem is most of the rebooking options look completely full right now. So they found their own backup route Colombo to Bangkok to Helsinki on March 15, but it costs almost €2,000 per person.
Now they basically have 24 hours to decide whether to book those expensive tickets or trust that Qatar will eventually reroute them.
That’s such a tough call. Paying that much hurts, but the idea of being stuck somewhere for weeks waiting for availability isn’t great either.
