For anyone wondering what happens if you’re already at a resort when flights get cancelled, here’s our experience.
We were supposed to leave Sandals today and woke up to our return flight cancelled. Immediate stress about flights and where we’d even stay. Went to the front desk and they were already aware of the situation. Told us to focus on rebooking flights and wait for the GM, who arrived around 11 like they said.
We managed to rebook a return flight for a week later (ugh) and let Sandals know. They told us we could stay until then at a “distress rate” of $500 per night total for the room, so $250 pp per night. That’s about half of what we originally paid. Full access to the resort, food, drinks, everything.
They’re charging it day by day too, so if we snag an earlier flight we’re not locked in for the whole week.
Not thrilled about a potential extra $3,500 bill, but honestly it beats scrambling for hotels and food somewhere unfamiliar. I was pretty impressed with how Sandals handled it given the circumstances.
