During boarding on a DCA to Chicago Midway flight, the flight attendants got on the intercom and told everyone to put small bags under the seat in front of them. They said the plane was weight restricted, and if the overhead bins filled up they might have to start pulling people off the plane.
That part surprised me. I always assumed a bag weighs the same whether it’s under the seat or in the overhead bin. So hearing that overhead bags could lead to people being removed had me scratching my head a bit.
Maybe it’s something about weight distribution or balance on the aircraft? Just not something I’d ever heard announced before.
Curious if anyone else has run into this.
