Shipping my personal laptop to Central America… bad idea?

Currently traveling through Central America and need to ship my personal MacBook from Germany to myself. I’ll be passing through Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.

I’m thinking San José might be the least painful option, using DHL Express or FedEx and picking it up there. But I’m worried about customs, delays, and unexpected fees, especially since it’s a used personal laptop.

For anyone who’s done this before, how complicated was customs and how long did it actually take? Is it better to ship to a courier service point for pickup, a hotel or hostel, or avoid that altogether?

Main goal is minimizing customs drama. Any firsthand experiences would be really helpful.
