My friends and I have noticed this a few times now. When searching a Southwest flight before buying, the seat map barely shows any free seats except way in the back. Of course the paid “better” seats are available.
But once we actually buy the ticket and open the app? Suddenly a bunch of middle of the plane seats are open. Rows that didn’t show as available before are magically there.
This has happened to me on four different flights recently. On my last one I picked 24C because that was the closest free option showing. Right after purchase, rows 15 to 18 had multiple free seats open.
Feels like they’re nudging people to pay for the front by making it look more full than it is.
Anyone else seeing this or am I just overthinking it?
