I’m planning my first international trip for next year and trying to get ahead of it. I’ll be flying from Dulles (IAD) to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, ideally on Emirates.
I’d really love to do a 2–3 day stopover in Dubai, either on the way there or on the way back. When I try to price it out myself by adding multiple legs (IAD → DXB, stay a few days, then DXB → DAR), the cost more than doubles compared to just booking a round trip with a long layover in Dubai.
Is there a better way to plan this so the stopover doesn’t blow up the price? Is this something Emirates allows through a stopover program, or is it more of a ticketing thing?
Also, does Emirates have agents or specialists who can help build an itinerary like this, or is a third party travel agent the way to go?
Any tips from people who’ve done a Dubai stopover would be appreciated.
