Had an unusual moment on a recent Ryanair flight from Athens to London Stansted.
During descent the crew made repeated announcements telling passengers to completely switch off all electronic devices. Not just airplane mode. They specifically said flight mode wasn’t enough and everything had to be powered off.
They repeated it several times and even walked down the aisle checking if people still had phones or tablets on. Apparently the instruction came directly from the pilot.
The landing itself was fine, though visibility was pretty poor with fog.
I’ve never heard a request like that in years of flying. Any idea why a pilot would ask for all devices to be fully powered off like that?
