Pat-down at security felt weird… is there any reason to choose the private room?

Had a pat-down a couple weeks ago after the body scanner flagged something near my neck. I figured it was my necklace, nope. They asked if I wanted it done in private or out in the open, and I picked out in the open because honestly it felt safer with people around.

They really went in on my chest area and it was super uncomfortable, even though they obviously found nothing.

Just wondering… is there any actual benefit to doing the private room, or is it just for people who don’t want to be seen getting searched? I always assumed doing it publicly kept everyone accountable.
