Had a strange moment on a Delta Premium Select flight (A330-300) recently.
Cabin was maybe a little over half full. My fiancée and I were sitting in the right bulkhead seats. About three hours in, an older woman behind us needed help from a flight attendant to get to the bathroom, so they asked us to put our seats upright so she could get out.
When she came back, the FA seated her in the middle bulkhead row next to us and thanked us. No problem at all.
The issue was with the passenger who had originally been sitting on the left aisle in that row. Since the cabin wasn’t full, she had moved over to the middle seat to spread out. When the FA placed the older woman next to her, she looked pretty annoyed.
After the FA walked away, it looked like she was nudging the older woman with her foot. Then when the woman got up again, she put her tray table down so she couldn’t easily sit back there.
The older passenger eventually just quietly moved back to the row behind us.
We kept our seats upright the rest of the time to make it easier for her to get out if she needed to. Not a big inconvenience for us, but it honestly felt pretty uncomfortable watching someone treat an older passenger like that.
Not really sure what a bystander should do in that situation. Curious if anyone else has seen something similar.
