With the activist investor gone, maybe this is the moment to just admit the whole thing was a mistake and go back to what made Southwest different.
Open seating. Two free bags. Simple.
If they really feel pressure to show investors something, fine, make it one free bag instead of two. But bring back the core identity.
Coke tried changing the formula in the 80s. People hated it. They brought back “Classic Coke” and it’s still #1 decades later.
If a big chunk of your loyal customers are this frustrated, maybe the bold move isn’t doubling down. Maybe it’s reversing course.
