Living abroad on a digital nomad visa, how are people handling taxes?

I’m trying to wrap my head around how taxes actually work for people living abroad on digital nomad visas.

If you’re considered a non resident in your home country, you may not owe taxes there. But if you’re also in a country that either exempts foreign income or doesn’t tax you because you’re there short term, does that really mean you’re paying zero tax? That feels too good to be true.

I also see people saying they move countries every few months, stay under 183 days, and somehow “avoid” taxes. If that’s the case, where are they actually paying? Or are they still filing somewhere and just misunderstanding how residency works?

Would really appreciate hearing from people actually doing this, especially anyone who’s dealt with audits or talked to tax professionals. Trying to understand what’s real vs internet mythology.
