This has been a whirlwind and I’m still processing it.
My wife and I flew from Houston to Japan for a two week vacation. Shortly after landing at Narita, her water broke. Ambulance to a nearby hospital, and she delivered our baby three months premature. Baby is in the NICU and doing relatively well, but doctors say we’ll be here for a few months.
Now we’re trying to figure out life in Narita on the fly.
My wife is a US citizen and can stay until March, but my stay expires Dec 22, so I’ll need an extension through immigration in Chiba. If anyone has experience with that process, especially in situations like this, I’d really appreciate it.
We’re currently in a short term rental around $60 a night and need something more stable. Any advice on short term apartments or furnished rentals would help a lot.
Also looking for basic advice on food shopping, baby supplies, clothing, and just generally getting settled for a few months unexpectedly.
If anyone has lived around Narita or dealt with something similar, I’m all ears. This isn’t how we imagined this trip going, but we’re focused on doing what’s best for our baby.
