Saw someone dealing with a pretty frustrating situation with a hotel in France booked through Booking.com.
They booked and fully paid back in January and got the confirmation. Then 6 weeks later the hotel contacted them saying there was a “system pricing error” and the real price is basically double. Now the hotel is refusing to honor the original booking unless they pay the extra.
What makes it worse is the hotel won’t cancel the reservation themselves. They keep telling the guest to cancel, which would obviously make it easier for the hotel to resell the room for a higher price. Booking.com support basically said the payment didn’t go through them so they can’t do much and told them to deal with the hotel directly.
The stay is during Easter weekend too, so finding another decent place now is tough.
Always makes me nervous seeing stuff like this. Once you have a confirmed booking you assume it’s locked in.
