Saw an interesting case of someone successfully getting rerouted after a Qatar Airways cancellation. Their flight from Amsterdam to Doha got cancelled because of the Doha suspension, and they still needed to get to Jakarta.
Instead of accepting a refund, they went straight to Qatar live chat and asked for rerouting under EU261. They already had an alternative ready: Amsterdam to Istanbul, then Istanbul to Jakarta on Turkish Airlines.
Apparently the agent approved it and issued the new tickets within minutes, even though the replacement flights were way more expensive at market price. They were also traveling with a 4-month-old, which probably helped add some urgency.
Good reminder that if your flight departs from the EU, EU261 can give you some strong rerouting rights if the airline cancels.
