Flew United with my family recently and ran into a confusing situation with a car seat.
I had installed my kid’s car seat in 15A, which is the row directly in front of the exit row. A flight attendant came over and said car seats aren’t allowed in that row and that I needed to move. I mentioned that I thought the rule was only that car seats can’t be in the exit row and have to be in a window seat, but she insisted they can’t be in front of it either.
Not wanting to argue mid-boarding, I swapped rows with my husband and older kid.
After the flight I checked United’s website and contract of carriage and couldn’t find anything about car seats being banned in the row before an exit row. Customer care responded pretty quickly and tossed some compensation my way, but that wasn’t really the point. I mainly wanted to make sure the FA had the correct info so it doesn’t happen again to someone else.
Has anyone else run into this rule before?
