Had a really strange interaction on an American flight from MSP to PHX and I’m trying to figure out if I did something wrong.
About 90 minutes into the flight I spilled apple juice on my lap and tray. I saw a flight attendant standing near the front by the first class curtain, so I stood up and walked a couple steps forward to ask for help.
Before I could even say anything she pointed at me and told me to turn around. I tried explaining that I had spilled something and needed help, but she kept repeating “turn around” a few times while raising her voice. I went back to my seat and another FA from the back helped me clean up.
Later the same attendant came by with a bottle of water and started talking to me again. She said I had been about to violate FAA rules and that she had to assume I was rushing the cockpit and could have police meet the plane.
All I had done was walk up near the curtain to ask for help with the spill.
Is approaching the front like that actually against the rules, or was this just an overreaction?
