Flew UAE–Doha–UK with Qatar for my grandmother’s funeral and the whole thing has been draining.
At Hamad, right before boarding, I was pulled aside for a “random” security check. Full frisk and bag search, no real explanation. I couldn’t help noticing it was mostly brown people being pulled aside. After that, security told me to proceed, but gate staff stopped me and sent me back in line saying the officer was wrong.
Then I was flagged again for an immigration/document check, even though I hold a British passport and was flying home to the UK. Different explanations from different staff, no clear reason.
Arrived in the UK and my suitcase never showed up. Waited about an hour, reported it to Swissport. I wasn’t given a luggage tag at departure, but they said it wouldn’t be a problem and Qatar would track it internally.
Two days later, no contact. When I called, I was told they couldn’t even properly file the report because there’s no luggage tag and I need to deal with Qatar directly. Since then I’ve been bounced between call centres in India and Doha who apparently can’t see the same systems. No reference number, no updates, nothing.
The bag has over £2.5k worth of winter clothes I bought specifically for this trip. Instead of focusing on my family and the funeral, I’m stuck chasing admin.
If anyone has dealt with being repeatedly flagged in Doha or missing baggage without a tag, I’d really appreciate advice on how to escalate this properly.
