Entering LAX with Global Entry. What should I expect?

I’m entering LAX in a few days and will be using Global Entry for the first time, so I had a few questions.

How is LAX overall for Global Entry users? Is it better to use the Global Entry app or just line up at the GE kiosks?

I’ll also need to declare prescribed medications since we got sick during this trip in Asia. If I’m declaring something, does it make more sense to use the app, or is it easier to go through the regular GE process?

I’ve also heard that first time Global Entry users sometimes get inspected or sent to an officer anyway. Is that true?
