That 18 hour SIN–JFK leg is the real factor here.
Premium Economy on Singapore’s ULR is a noticeable upgrade over Economy. You get:
Much wider seat
More recline and legroom
Better meal service
Quieter, smaller cabin
On a normal 6–8 hour flight, I’d say maybe not worth almost double the points. But on an 18ish hour ultra long haul? That’s where Premium Economy really shines.
You’re going to spend a huge chunk of your life in that seat. Extra space and comfort makes a real difference for sleep and just overall sanity.
Also, the 07:30 departure can actually work in your favor. You can treat it like a long day flight, eat lightly, nap strategically, and arrive less wrecked.
If you have the 40k to spare, I’d personally do the mixed cabin and enjoy Premium Economy on the long sector. That’s where it matters most.
