I’ve been looking at flights from Europe to Southeast Asia and keep seeing these wild options pop up. Trips that normally take under 20 hours suddenly become 35 hours with two or three connections, sometimes even self transfers. And the savings are tiny, like maybe €100.
Some of them don’t even make logical sense. Stuff like flying to Amsterdam, then back to Paris, and only then heading out on the long haul. No chance for a stopover either, just exhausting layovers.
So I’m genuinely curious who these flights are for. Are there really people willing to add 15 extra hours and more risk just to save a small amount? Is it about mileage, or airlines filling seats, or search engines trying to anchor you into paying more for the “reasonable” option?
And how does it make sense for airlines to charge less for a route that uses more flights and resources?
Not talking about intentional stopovers to explore a city, just these nonsensical itineraries.
